Pics of frag rack and how well the green slimer is. You can see how brown and polypless the opposite side is.

That is from LED shadowing or not enough flow. Not typically a big deal though if you start to see recession in flesh try to nip it in the bud and frag the healthy coral...

As for coming my way. I am in the states through 4/20 I believe. I would be going to Europe sometime after that for a week or 2. Just give me a heads up so I can clean and make everything pretty in the tank for ya and throw down some drool rags.

Though my tank at the moment has some bare spots since removing two rather large colonies. I need some items to regrow and I really need to catch my wrasse so I can get rid of my aiptasia.

Yeah I've been reading about your issue with catching the wrasse. Good luck, hopefully the barbless hook will do the trick.

I'll look at dates, but I think I can do something before the 20th.

Yes I figured the browning and polypless side was LED shadowing. They had all their tanks under radions. Under my t5 setup that side has already gained some color in the week it's been in my tank. It definitely likes the higher light and direct flow from the jebao. If I start stocking some SPS's I might have to reconsider my rockwork or the placement of my powerheads.

Well I lost both my black osc. clowns, and now my yellow eye kole is on the bottom of the tank laying on it's side. No idea whats going on either as I just tested my QT and it checks out fine with 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and only 10 nitrates. I did a 10G WC yesterday when I discovered one clown dead and the other breathing hard. Woke up this morning to the other clown dead, and now the yellow eye kole.

Well if they all die, I'll tear down the QT and wait out the fallow period.

Display is doing great as most corals are thriving and actually growing, algae is non existent. Only thing bothering me is I can't seem to get nitrates up any with no fish. Every time I test(regardless of whether its NYOS, Salifert, Red Sea, or API) they show 0.

Sorry to hear about your losses. I hope you figure out the cause!

The 0 nitrates is the curse of a successful tank. I think there's value in experienced reefers having 50 fishes in a 120 gallon tank (exageration, but not by much) in that it does keep the food and nitrate chain flowing, which helps the corals indirectly and is tough to measure.

As long as your corals are maintaining color though, I wouldn't worry about 0 nitrates. There's always potassium nitrate fertilizer if you really want to try some crazy colors (or phosphate reduction).

No stay voltage, and they have been in there for about 3 weeks now with no issues. It's really perplexing, as the only other fish in there is a leopard wrasse that is doing fine.

My current QT is setup just like a normal tank. LR, 2 powerheads, a heater, and no sand. I waited a few weeks for it to cycle properly so I wouldn't have this issue.

What about o2? Any airstone? Surface agitation with a PH might not be enough for all those fish.

As for visiting. I am slammed tomorrow so would need to be in April. I will have to look at schedule for those days as the 16th is my birthday and I might take off anyway.

I was thinking maybe o2 also, but wouldn't it have been an issue before now? Plenty of surface agitation, and were only talking 4 fish, well 2 now. I did have one of those bubble wands, but the bubbles were so fine it acted like a skimmer and the water got all nasty. This was before I put the fish in while I was cycling.

Ok on tomorrow, was just a thought my wife just had as I have the next 2 days off.

Any time that week is good for me as I'm taking the 16'th to the 22nd off. Just let me know whats good for you.

The particulate is in the water so if the bubbles made it more visible then that is what it is. A cheap hob skimmer or such would allow you to supply O2 while keeping that nastiness in a cup.

Also during cycle you will have WAY more organics in water as there is dieoff and such then you will when stable. I always run my QT with an airstone or HOB filter to make sure I am breaking the surface.

If your PH are only rolling the surface then you might not be swapping enough CO2. Likely you held off the issues as you put in new fish or did water changes to the QT and broke the water surface swapping CO2 at that time.

Plus I gots to clean before you come over. Then when you get to the house state items like "forgive the mess as I havent had time to clean" even though it will be cleaner then in past 6months...

With a soon to be 5 year old my house is a natural disaster.

Dang, time flies.... Our turned 1 in January... (and that just so happened to be when the tank went downhill.... hmmmm; no, it was definitely my negligence and not the baby that caused the issues. Oh yeah, and bubble algea.)

my bubble is back some as well though minimal and mangeable. Wish I had more of that as opposed to aiptasia. Actually leaving it alone in a few spots so that aiptasia wont grow there. HA

Interesting idea, bubble algae to keep aiptasia at bay.... Might work.

Woke up this morning to my yellow eye kole dead. I think for now, least until May 1(fallow period over) I'm going to skip trying to buy any fish. Only fish I have left now is my female leopard in the same QT everything else is dying in, and green mandy I did not remove from the tank.

FWIW, my mandy is super fat. I have so many pods now with no wrasse in my tank I have what looks like fleas all over everything. I also have some very large amphipods that I see at night that are almost the size of my pinkie finger! My leopard would be having a field day right now.

I've also noticed a much nicer looking tank since removing my filter socks. Yes there is a bit more particulate in the water(mostly shed exoskeletons of amphipods and copopods), but all my corals and feather dusters are much happier with a little more particulate in the water. Water is still crystal clear as I run carbon 24/7.

I havent run socks in some time but my water does have a bit too m uch particulate at times. I need to throw some mesh socks on again for a little bit myself.

I wouldnt recommend running carbon 24/7 BTW. Use as needed. I only run some a short period perhaps once a month for a week or so when the water starts to have a haze.

Odd thing......

I believe my rather large white rock flower nem has eaten my mandy!!!

No seriously, when I looked this morning it was all puffy and looked like a tail hanging out of it's mouth. I was half asleep and shrugged it off. My lights come on some 4 hours later, and even now I cannot find my mandy! It's the only moving thing in the tank so it shouldn't be to hard.

Guess we will see in day or so when it spits out the carcass. It's stalk/foot whatever you want to call it, is swollen beyond normal what little bit of it I can see.

I have always in every tank fresh or salt run carbon 24/7, even experimented without for a while. I have never seen a detrimental effect either way. It all depends on the quality of carbon you run IMO.

Just got a sweet deal on 2 36" Actinic XHO reef bright strips, barely used for 3 months. I got them for both for 150$!

Got those reefbrites in. All working good except 3 hours after I plugged them in, one of the power supplies died. Certainly not the sellers fault as it worked when it left him, and worked for 3 hours while I had it.

OOh well shift happens! I'm still 400$ up on the price of 2 new reefbrites.

Unfortunately anemones eating fishes is nothing new. BTAs it's less common, but in my meeting experienced reefers with anemones, they've all consistently told me that with a carpet anemone and some other anemones, it's not a matter of if they eat your fishes, it's a matter of when they eat all of your fishes, including tangs and other fish you'd never expect to be eaten by an anemone.

Sorry to hear your mandarin is gone

Hope the reefbrites are good. I should have a tank this weekend, so I'll update my thread and start a new one to keep you posted

Yes I knew anemones could eat fish, but also knew it was fairly uncommon with rock flowers. This one I have just happens to be larger then normal, about the size of a tea cup saucer.

It's coming together though in unexpected ways.

Well yellow eye kole number 3. Hopefully this one makes it.

This is now the only fish I currently have. Now that my tank is finally stable and corals are growing, I'm missing any fish! It seems like with this tank it's either the corals are doing great, and the fish are suffering, or the fish are doing great and the coral suffer.

I honestly have no idea whats currently going on with my tank and am just rolling with the punches.

Since my QT tests out perfect, I'm going to go with low oxygen is the reason I lost the last round of fish. kole is in TTM right now, and an air stone was added to the QT. We shall see in a few weeks if my QT is sufficient.

one thing I do and love with QT is to throw a small 1/2 or 3/4 PVC reducer fitting on the airline hose to go over the airstone. It weights it down in the tank so fish cant knock it around or anything.

I swap the fittings when I transfer tanks and clean like I do rest of equipment. Airstone and airline obviously throw away with each transfer.
