Quarantine tank

Can I keep a quarantine tank in my garage or will it get to cold for the heaters to keep up in winter? Uk winter

Depends on how cold. Heaters generally struggle when they have to work to maintain water temp more than 10-12 degrees higher than ambient air temp.

For a UK winter I'm willing to commit that the tank will be way to cold in your garage.

Probably best to try and avoid a small QT in the garage, if temps are cold enough for snow

Fish are not disposable commodities, but a worthwhile investment that can be maintained and enjoyed for many years, providing one is willing to take the time to understand their requirements and needs

Current Tank Info: 625g, 220g sump, RD3 230w, Vectra L1 on a closed loop, 3 MP60s, MP40. Several QTs

Hi mikee b,

I am also in the UK and have a QT in our outbuilding which has no heating. I purchased 2 oversized heaters and control them through an external temperature controller never had an issue.

If in doubt ask!

If you insulate the tank and reduce evaporation you will likely be ok. Just use a quality temp controller and multiple heaters.

Hobby Experience: 9200ish gallons, 26 skimmers, and a handful of Kent Scrapers.
Current Tank:
Vortech Powered 600G SPS Tank w/ 100gal frag tank & 100g Sump. RK2-RK10 Skimmer. ReefAngel. Radium 20k.
